We’re looking for a Tech Lead (Principal Engineer) to join our growing team. This is a unique opportunity to bring your ideas and expertise to a fast-growing tech company, defining the vision, delivering the plan and leading the team.

Your mission:

• Based within our Product team, your role will be a combination of technical contributions through architecture and infrastructure development and writing reliable code, and coaching and leading a growing team of talented engineers.
• With a high level of autonomy, you’ll work closely with the Head of Product to make both product and road-map decisions.

Some of your focus areas will be: 

• Platform Architecture: You’ll be leading the vision of the entire platform architecture as a hands-on Principal Engineer. You’ll play a leading role in technical development, architecture as well as project delivery. You’ll help the team with software quality and take personal ownership of the product you ship
• Ensuring technical excellence: You’ll be a hands-on engineer who can teach best practice within your team. You’ll play a leading role in technical development, internal APIs and SDKs as well as project delivery. You’ll help the team with software quality and take personal ownership of the product you ship
• Road-map planning and prioritisation: In collaboration with the Head of Product, you'll be the technical voice, ensuring that we balance customer needs and technical debt.
• Building your team: You’ll help your (currently small but growing) team to work together and bring out individual strengths. Using an agile approach, you’ll put in place the structures you feel your team needs and communicate effectively. You’ll also play an active part in hiring, onboarding and growing your team to increase your capacity to take on bigger challenges.

A bit about you:

• You have previous experience full-scale system or project, ideally you've led technical architecture at a tech startup
• You have previous experience of leading and mentoring a team of engineers
• You enjoy creating an inspiring team environment where ideas are shared, and openness is valued
• Strong coding ability in Typescript
• Hard-earned production skills in developing and operating a Node.js backend
• Deep understanding of React
• Comfortable working in Vercel and AWS Infrastructure
• Experienced working with GraphQL, SQL databases, query optimisation and transactions
• You set a high bar for software quality and consider tests a must
• Your code reads like well-written prose.
• Working proficiency and communication skills in verbal and written English

Some additional skills that would be awesome:

• Expertise in DevOps
• Passion for e-commerce and/or the hotel industry.
